Setting Your Daily Water Goal

Drinking enough water every day is one of the most effective lifestyle choices for managing gout and protecting your joints. Gout Radar makes it easy to personalize and track your daily water goal—so you can build healthier habits, reduce flare risk, and feel your best.

What Is the Water Daily Goal?

  • Your Water Daily Goal is the target amount of water you aim to drink each day (measured in milliliters, ml).
  • By default, most users start with a goal of about 2000 ml (2 liters), which equals roughly 7–8 standard glasses.

Why Is Hydration So Important for Gout?

  • Water helps your kidneys remove uric acid from your blood, lowering the risk of painful crystal buildup in your joints.
  • Research shows that drinking at least 5–8 glasses (about 1.2–2 L) of water per day can meaningfully lower your short-term risk of a gout flare.
  • Staying well-hydrated is as important as managing your diet—together, they’re a powerful way to control gout.

How to Use Your Daily Water Goal

  1. Personalize your goal:

    • Tap on the card or use the “Edit Daily Limit” option (ellipsis menu) to set a water goal that fits your lifestyle, activity level, or medical advice.
    • Typical goals range from 1.2 to 2.5 liters (1200–2500 ml) per day for most adults.
  2. Track your progress:

    • Log your water intake in the app.
    • See at a glance if you’re meeting your goal each day.
  3. Adjust as needed:

    • Increase your goal on hot days, during exercise, or when you’re eating salty or high-protein foods.
    • If you have medical conditions (like heart or kidney disease), follow your doctor’s advice.

Take-Home Rule

Hydration is just as important as watching what you eat. Keeping up with your daily water goal directly lowers uric acid, supports kidney function, and helps prevent gout flares—no complicated tracking required.

Tips for Success

  • Carry a water bottle and sip throughout the day.
  • Set reminders in the app or on your phone.
  • Celebrate streaks: Building a hydration habit takes time, but every day counts!
